The people of New Caledonia are expected to go to the polls in 2018 to determine whether or not to remain within the French Republic. This workshop, presented by the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia Program in partnership with the Pacific Institute, will bring together researchers from around Australia and from New Caledonia to discuss some of the key issues facing local political leaders and the New Caledonian population at large in the lead up to the referendum. The workshop will include presentations from both Anglophone and Francophone researchers with various experiences in the field in New Caledonia.
