This study investigates the Indigenous knowledge systems of Pacific peoples' relationships with the ocean, atmosphere and coastal resources by exploring the connections between cultural environmental knowledge, marine habitats and species as they relate to seasonal variation. I propose a comparison between coastal tribes of northeast Australia and New Zealand. It includes the exploration of cultural elements in connection and how these elements are integral to the sustenance of livelihood, local resources, cultural traditions and associated marine territory governance and responsibilities.
