Dear Pacific Institute Members,
Very sad news yesterday (21 March, 2017) of the tragic loss of Teresia Teaiwa, stellar Pacific studies scholar renowned for her writing on gender, militarization, Pacific feminisms and Pacific peoples in Fiji and Aotearoa New Zealand. She was a witty and creative writer of poetry and plays and a wonderful generous woman, mentor to many. She was the beloved big sister of our colleague Katerina Teaiwa. All of us at ANU extend our deepest condolences to Katerina, to Tere's parents John and Joan Teaiwa, her little sister Maria and to her beloved partner Sean Mallon and their two sons Manoa Teaiwa and Vaitoa Mallon and to all her dear colleagues and friends at Victoria University in Wellington and around the world.
