[ANU Pacific.Institute] PNG Elections, 1964 to 2017: screening of Path to Nationhood documentary and a Q&A discussion with ANU academics

The Writs have been issued (24 April) and Nominations have closed (27 April). So, while we wait for Polling to commence (24 June), and long before Polling ends (8 July) and the Return of Writs (24 July)...



Devpolicy, the PNG Canberra Student's Association and The ANU's Pacific Institute invite you to see how Papua New Guinea's National Elections began, with a special screening of



Path to Nationhood (1964, 45mins)

5:15pm for 5:30pm, Wednesday 3 May

Path to Nationhood tells the story of the first national election of the House of Assembly of Papua and New Guinea in 1964. It includes footage of the difficulties faced compiling the common electoral roll (for 1,000,000 Papua New Guineans), voting, counting and the declaration of the polls.



After the screening, you are welcome to stay for a brief discussion and Q&A with two ANU academics:

*         Dr Nicole Haley, Convenor of the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia Program, will outline SSGM's involvement in the upcoming national elections and

*         Dr Terence Wood, Research Fellow at Devpolicy, will introduce the new PNG Election Results Database<https://devpolicy.crawford.anu.edu.au/png-project/png-election-database>.
