The Australian National University's College of Asia and the Pacific, School of Culture, History and Language and the Pacific Institute, invite you to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pacific Manuscripts Bureau.
Known affectionately as 'PAMBU', the Bureau was formed in 1968 to create preservation copies of archives, manuscripts and rare printed material relating to the Pacific Islands. Since its inception at the ANU, PAMBU has been supported by an international consortium of libraries who make these preservation copies accessible to researchers. From whaling logs to unpublished novels, from mission records to radio broadcasts and dictionaries to diaries, PAMBU has created the biggest collection of non-government primary documentation about the Pacific Islands that is available to researchers.
Friends of PAMBU are invited to join us as we honour our history through the sharing of memories, and celebrate our future with the formal signing of our newest member library, the University of Papua New Guinea. Our guest speaker will be UPNG Librarian, Leah Kalamoroh, who will speak on the importance of PAMBU membership to the development of the library's New Guinea collection.
Guests are invited to join us in Room 1.02 of the Sir Roland Wilson Building at 4.30pm, with formalities to commence at 4.45pm. Formalities will be followed by light refreshments from 5.30pm in the adjacent foyer.
Please share this invitation with those in your professional and student networks who may be interested in attending. Places are limited, so please register via Eventbrite by 1 August.
