I wanted to draw your attention to CAP's funding opportunity opening this month (see below).  Although a member of CAP needs to apply, there is support for inter-college applications so if you are interested but not in CAP then search out a CAP colleague to apply with.  The Pacific Institute has endorsed such applications in the past (although this is not at all necessary) so if you want the Board to discuss the application and endorse it then please let us know.

Dear Colleagues,



The 2018 Asia-Pacific Innovation Program (APIP) Round Two opens next week. The purpose of the Asia-Pacific Innovation Program is to support projects which:



  *   are of strategic relevance and benefit to the College as a whole;
  *   are innovative;
  *   support and mentor Early Career Researchers;
  *   are collaborative and have potential to develop new networks outside of the College and University to strengthen its research capability;
  *   have the potential to lead to further funding by higher value external programs and
  *   showcase and disseminate the College's research achievements.



There are four schemes from which to choose:



1. ECR Research Development Award



The ECR Research Development Award is designed to assist the CAP Early Career Researchers (ECRs) with innovative research activities that are unable to be funded through other sources. This scheme is open all year on a first-come-first-served basis until all funds are exhausted. 2. ECR Research Excellence



The ECR Research Excellence Award is designed to support up to two outstanding CAP ECR's (Early Career Researchers) who have the potential to successfully apply in future for external funds. Applications open at 10am, 8 October and close at 3pm, 29 October 2018. 3. Research Development Award



The Research Development Award is designed to support CAP researchers working on first class, innovative research that has a cross-College and cross-campus emphasis. 4. Strategic Research Collaboration Grant

The Strategic Research Collaboration Grant is a flagship grant designed to provide outstanding CAP researchers with the resources and support to encourage new research that creates new disciplinary approaches to emerging, complex societal and policy challenges, enhances greater understanding of the evolving dynamics of our region, * develops strategic and innovative research projects, and provides strategic benefits to CAP.
