Securing Maritime boundaries in the Pacific

Pacific leaders last year "acknowledged the urgency and importance of securing the region's maritime boundaries as a key issue for the development and security of the region" (49th Pacific Islands Forum Communique). Robyn Frost, from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Frances Anggadi, from the Attorney-General's Department, will provide an update on the Pacific island states' efforts to establish their maritime zones, and discuss some new developments to assist the region respond to the potential effects of sea-level rise, and other climate change impacts, on maritime zones.
About the speakers:
Robyn Frost:
Robyn is Director, Pacific Maritime Boundaries, in the Office of the Pacific in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade having joined DFAT earlier this year from the Attorney-General's Department. During her career in the Attorney-General's Department, Robyn worked in the Office of International Law, advising on a range of international law issues, including serving as legal adviser to the Pacific Maritime Boundaries Project, an Australian aid-funded project that provides legal and technical assistance to Pacific countries to establish their maritime zones. Immediately prior to joining DFAT, Robyn was Director of AGD's Pacific Section.
Frances Anggadi:
Frances is a Principal Legal Officer in the Office of International Law, Attorney-General's Department, and has advised across a range of public international law issues, including international law of the sea, international human rights and refugee law, the use of force and international humanitarian law. Since 2017, Frances has also served as legal adviser to the Pacific Maritime Boundaries Project.
