Piksa Inap Tok (Pictures Can Talk), Contemporary Art from Papua New Guinea

Date: Tuesday 17 September 2019, 6 pm
Venue: ANU School of Art & Design Gallery, Cnr Ellery Cres & Liversidge St, Acton ACT

Piksa Inap Tok (Pictures Can talk) celebrates the diversity and dynamism of PNG art today. Over 80 works from private collections have been brought together for a special exhibition which opens 16 September to help celebrate Papua New Guinea’s 44th Independence Day celebrations. These rarely seen works carry messages about personal identities and social and national issues, highlighting PNG’s political and social engagement with its Asian and Australian neighbours. Piksa Inap Tok (Pictures Can talk) is a rare opportunity to see a range of masterful works that are emblematic of Papua New Guinea’s contemporary art and cultural history.
This event is curated by Dr Anna Edmundson (Lecturer & Internships Coordinator, ANU Centre for Heritage & Museum Studies).
