Nature and Scope:
The Opportunity
School of Social Sciences is seeking for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the area of Sociology with a Social Policy focus. The appointee will be responsible for planning, teaching and coordinating courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level (including online courses). The appointee will supervise Postgraduate, Masters and/or PhD level students and will facilitate the growth and development of the Sociology programme. He/she will establish and/or continue a strong programme of research and will deliver high standards of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the area of Sociology.
The incumbent must have research publications that meet the University's Quality of Research criteria at the appropriate academic level.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
For appointment at the Lecturer Level: PhD in Sociology or PhD in a related field with Sociology Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualification and some tertiary teaching experience; a good publication record and demonstrated ability and competency in research; experience in online teaching; experience in teaching a wide range of sociological topics at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels; experience in supervising Undergraduate, MA and PhD research; and ability to work as a team member in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment. Preferences will be given to those who already possess a teaching qualification and Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (PGCTT) or equivalent;
For appointment at the Senior Lecturer Level: PhD in Sociology or PhD in a related field with expertise in Social Policy with significant (normally 10 years) tertiary teaching experience;
- Extensive research experience and evidence of teaching excellence;
- A strong publication record in international refereed journals;
- Extensive experience in both Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching; and
- Extensive experience in MA and PhD supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants with some research and teaching experience in the Pacific Region and experience in online teaching.
