May I draw the attention of colleagues who can read French: the last issue of the Journal de la Société des Océanistes is a wonderful gift for this end of year / for this new year.
A special issue devoted to « Learning and (re)valorising knowledge in Oceania » ("Apprentissage, (re)construction et (re)valorisation des savoirs en Océanie »)

Reading this whole file (10 articles!) is a real treat: French Polynesia (4 articles), Kanak world (2 articles), Australia, etc. and Céline Travesi's very enlightening synthesis-introduction. This “dossier” constitutes a great book, and will remain a long time I think a reference for the whole field of the “(re) valorization of knowledge in Oceania”.
Actually, the whole issue of JSO is also a treat, because it includes, in addition to the « dossier", two reviews which are much more than reviews, one restoring the historical context of the expedition, at the beginning of the 20th century , of Rivers, Hocart and Wheeler, adding a wealth of data on Wheeler's little-known work on Mono-Alu, which Denis Monnerie (the author of the article) was the only one to have examined very closely in the years 1980 (cf. his 1996 book; see bibliography following the article), the other (by Aurélie Condevaux) on the missionary life of Father Léon Gavet in Samoa, again entirely unknown before the very recent publication of his personal letters.
All my wishes for the New Year
Serge Tcherkezoff
