Dear colleagues, earlier in July we lost a much-cherished CHL colleague, Donald Denoon.
Donald was a historian of Africa and then of the Pacific, teaching at Makarere University in Kampala (1966-1972), as Professor of History at UPNG (1972-1981), and then at ANU from 1982. He published very widely - on East Africa, the history of the Pacific as well as of PNG and Australia, oral history, health and medicine, mining and decolonisation, and historiography. Many would be aware of the 1997 Cambridge History of the Pacific Islands, for which he was co-editor.
There will be a memorial for Donald from 12 to 4pm on 7 September, at Jackson's Landing Station<https://jacksonslanding.net.au/facilities/station/>, 58 Bowman St, Pyrmont, Sydney, hosted by his partner Mary Mortimer and his children
