Upcoming events!

1) Racing/Rules Night: Monday 14th April.
2) Uni Champs: Easter
3) Batemans Bay Regatta: ANZAC Day Long Weekend

1) Racing and Rules Night (Monday 14th April)

Interested in sailing the Uni Champs?
Not too sure about this racing thing?
Semi-experienced but need to brush up on your rules?
There will be an informal racing and rules night held next Monday at the clubhouse. We’ll go through starting procedure, the course to be used at the Uni Champs (which you’ll also encounter at lots of other regattas), basic signals such as Posponement and Shorten Course and basic Rules of the Road. This will serve as an introduction to racing as well as a refresher for those whose rules are a bit rusty. It will also be a chance to meet other competitors or catch up with those people you’ve already met!

When: Monday 14th April from 7:30 (will last at least an hour, probably more; feel free to turn up for what you can)
Where: Clubhouse (map on club website http://student.anu.edu.au/Clubs/Sailing_Club)
Contact: Kerry Vinall kvinall at myrealbox.com or 0412263307.

No need to rsvp, just turn up on the night.

2) Uni Champs (Easter 19th-22nd April 03)

Make sure that you can make it to this because it is something every member should get involved with. The ANUSC is hosting the regatta so there is no travel and we are borrowing boats for everybody who wants a chance to compete.

What are the Uni Champs?
The uni champs are an annual regatta where universities get together to sail and socialise. Like all university sport the aim is to concentrate on the social activities to make it fun for all standards of sailor.

For those who have been to a Mini Intervarsity in recent years the Uni Champs will be simular except bigger since this is the real Intervarsity. In short the plan is for various Universities to travel to Canberra. They will stay in the clubhouse and over 4 days there will be a series of social events and sailing.

What if I can't make the whole 4 days?
If you can't make it for the whole regatta still contact Tom since there may be a chance for you to race during part of the regatta.

Do I need to be a good sailor?
To compete and have fun you don't need sailing experience because we can match you as a crew for an experienced sailor. Of course the better you are the more chance you will have of winning.

Do I need to be a student?
You don't need to be a student to compete although only students can win the championship. We will try to match up student crews and none student crews.

What will it cost?
Since it is a University Championship Race Entry will be subsidised by the ANU Sports and Recreation Association. We are hoping to get sponsorship to cover most of the social events. Once sponsorship and subsidies are finalised a final figure will be released.

For those who are interested.
If you would like to be involved with the regatta simply email the following information to Tom O'Callaghan by Friday 11th April. He will then match up people with the right level of sailing experience to form appropriate crews. If there is somebody you would like to sail with you can organise your own crews.

1) What would you prefer to sail? (Don't Mind/Laser/Tasar/Sharpie)

2) Are you a current ANU student?

3) Provide a 1 sentence outline of your sailing experience (eg I have just finished a beginners course).

4) If you are not available for the whole regatta provide details.

3) Batemans Bay Regatta 26-27 April

The Batemans Bay Regatta is the traditional end of season regatta for sailors from around the region. We camp right next to where we launch boats, and have a campfire and some socialising in the evening. If you only make one regatta away from Canberra every year it has to be this one! Unlike the Uni Champs to crew at Batemans you will need a little experience (beginners course at the abolsute minimum; ask if you are unsure). To skipper you will need to have raced before as the conditions can be quite rough.

When: 26-27 April (some people will go down on the afternoon/evening of the 25th)
Where: Batemans Bay, 2 hours from Canberra.
