Hi,

The ANUSC will be running an Intermediate Sailing Course in February /
March. The plan is to take those who have done a beginners course and
increase their skills so that they are confident to use the boats and travel
to regattas and university events.

Intermediate courses are very rare and if it goes ahead as outlined below it
will be the first Level 3 course ever in Canberra. There are however a
couple of barriers to the course being run in the format below. Therefore if
you are interested in an Intermediate Course please give me an email so that
numbers can be ascertained.

***The original plan***
The ANU Sailing Club in conjunction with the YMCA Sailing Club of Canberra
will be running a Level 2 & 3 Yachting Australia course. ANUSC members will
be able to do the course at up to 40% off the normal price. The YMCASC is a
Yachting Australia Sailing School which means that the course will be run by
fully qualified instructors and graduates will receive nationally recognised
certification. Included in the cost is 2004 ANUSC membership which gives
unlimited FREE use of ANUSC boats throughout the sailing season.

- Theory Sessions: Monday 23 Feb, 1 March, 8 March 6pm - 8pm
- Saturday Training Sessions: Saturday 6 and 13 March 9am - 1pm
- Saturday Racing: Saturday 6 and 13 March 2pm - 5pm
- Tuesday Racing: To practice the more advanced skills it is
suggested that participants enter the YMCASC practice races on Tuesday
nights from 5:30 - 8pm. This is free of charge.

Who should do this Course
This course is designed to take those who already have a handle on the basic
skills and want to learn more advanced techniques. This is to give ANUSC
members the confidence to travel to regattas and inter-university events.
For this reason most of the course is conducted during actual races.

Level 2 is the designed for beginners who have only just completed their
first sailing course. Level 3 is much more advanced, covering topics such as
roll tacking / roll gybing, spinnakers, trapeze and basic race tactics. For
Level 3 it is recommended that you have done beginner courses and have been
practicing in your own time for about a year.

Therefore to do this course you will at a minimum have done a beginners
course or have equivalent sailing experience of 40 hours as a skipper. Those
who have done more than one beginners course or who have been sailing for
around a year will have a good chance of passing the much harder Level 3 in
addition to Level 2 which everybody should be able to pass.

Cost:
- ANU Student $120* - SRA Member $150* - Non-SRA Member $176+
* Includes 2004 ANUSC membership. If you are already a member the price is
reduced by $20.
+This is the standard price charged by the YMCASC.

(Note that course is subject to minimum number of enrolments)
