Hi all,
Open Day (this Saturday)
The ANU Sailing Club open day is this Saturday 9th October from midday. There will be a free BBQ and sailing so feel free to come down and go for a sail. It will be a good opportunity to come back to the club and catch up so I hope to see you there.
Chance to practice rigging
This Sunday 10th Oct at 2pm there is a beginners course starting. The first few hours will be spent on shore learning how to rig and going through sailing procedures on shore (launching, landing, tacking, gybing, capsize drill). Because it is going over drills on shore it is irrelevant how many people are present so all members are all welcome to come down and participate (no cost). This will give you the chance to practice rigging in case there is anything you have forgotton. After on shore practice there is unlikely to be an opportunity to sail because those on the course will have priority over the boats.
Intermediate Course
Andrew Sutton is going to be running two intermediate sailing sessions from this Sunday 10th and next Sunday 17th of October. His focus is going to be on racing to try and encourage more people to attend inter-university and other regattas. Even if you feel like you have forgotten everything over winter ALL of you have the skills to crew in races and some of you have already proven this at Batemans Bay or in Twilight racing.
Basically the deal for the intermediate course is two special sessions plus the option of attending the beginners course Monday sessions for extra practice to improve the skills Andrew has taught you. The cost of this is $20 for ANU students and $30 for SRA members. If you are interested send me an email so we can get an idea of numbers.
Sunday 10th 9:30am - 6pm
Monday 18th 4pm - 8pm
Sunday 17th 9:30am - 6pm
Monday 18th 4pm - 8pm
New Lasers
The club is purchasing two second hand Lasers in excellent condition to improve the quality of club equipment. The new boats come with both full and radial rigs. Radial rigs are ideal for lighter sailors and are the womens inter university class. The lasers should be available for Open Day.
cheers
