Hi all!

The pretrip is tomorrow (Wed) at 6:45pm at the ANUSC. Numbers are unlimited (there is currently approx 50 people interested) so if you are not on the list and want to come email me today or ring me tomorrow. Provided there is room in cars I will allow late sign ups right up to when we leave Friday night but only by phone (don't email me after today) and subject to the late penalty.

NEWSFLASH Reduced Cost!

Because we have so many people coming the caravan park is offering a $10 per person discount so the cost is reduced to $50!

New Alternate Payment Time

Some people have asked for an alternate payment time at university. I will be outside the ANUMC gearstore (2nd floor of the ANU SRA (gym) building) from 11:55 - 12:05 midday tomorrow (Wednesday) to accept payment from anybody who cannot attend the pretrip.

Kayak Trip Leaders Needed!

We need more experienced kayakers on this trip. Ideally I am looking for people to be trip leaders or assistant leaders on short sea kayaking trips with beginners.

Pretrip (Wed 6th April 6:45 pm at ANUSC)

The location for the pretrip is the ANU Sailing Club ( map at http://clubs.anu.edu.au/clubs/Sailing_Club/intro.html ). The clubhouse will be open from 4pm for you to go sailing as long as you know what you are doing and don't require supervision or sail with somebody who knows what they are doing. On the trip itself anybody who can swim will be able to try sailing, windsurfing or kayaking even if you have never done it before.

With this many people going, pretrips are important to get everybody together to give vital info about the trip, confirm attendence, collect money, organise car and tent allocations, give out directions to where we are going, organise a lift to the clubhouse for Friday night and tie boats to trailers so they are ready to go.

Bring your ANUSC or ANUMC membership card as well as $50 to the pretrip. Also bring sailing gear (change of clothes and old shoes) if you want to sail before the pretrip.

Pretrip Drinks (get to know people before the trip)

After the pretrip there will be drinks at a local bar to help people get to know each other before the trip! I highly recommend that you attend the drinks session as with a large trip such as this it will help you to break the ice before the trip.

Below are details which have not changed.

cheers

Trip Details

Basically the plan is to go to the coast for the weekend, camping by the beach. We will leave Friday night around 5:30pm with most people stopping at a restaurant on the way. We will return late on Sunday once again stopping in Braidwood for an end of trip dinner on the way home. Transport is by carpooling with members who have cars and accommodation is in tents (either bring your own or share). The aim is to have an awesome weekend at the beach and for club members to get to know each other in a relaxing environment! For this reason the BBQ and Beach Party on Saturday night is just as important as enjoying the weekend sailing, windsurfing, surfing (byo board), kayaking, relaxing on the beach or whatever else you want to do on the coast. Tuross is the ideal location for all this as we camp right next to a surf beach, 5 minutes walk to the village shops and 5 minutes drive from sheltered lakes! There is no need to have any sailing, windsurfing or kayaking ability.

If this sounds like your kind of trip read the extra details below and send me an email today or if signing up later in the week call. Include in the email your mobile phone number and details of your tent and or car if you have one (eg car age, model, towbar and how many people your tent sleeps). Then turn up to the pretrip meeting tomorrow night or alternative time midday tomorrow.

Cost

The cost is $50 which includes 2 nights tent site, share of car costs and a BBQ dinner on the Saturday night. Other costs are whatever you eat and drink on the weekend. If anybody only stays 1 night the cost will be reduced to $40.

Given that we need to pay for campsites in advance, payment will be collected and receipted at the pretrip meeting or before it. Refunds less $10 penalty will be available for withdrawals before the trip and there will be a $10 penalty for failing to pay in advance. I know this sounds really anal but I don't want to spend a weekend chasing people for money or end up footing the bill for anybody who pulls out at the last moment as has happened in the past.

What to Bring

Everybody will need to bring a sleeping bag and sleeping mat (ANUMC members hire from gearstore if you don't have one). Since we are camping you also need warm clothing and preferably a waterproof jacket. Also bring money, torch, beach and sailing/kayaking gear (at best wetsuit, sprayjacket and wetsuit boots at worst warm non-cotton clothing like old wollen clothes that can get wet, old shoes and a cheap raincoat).

In terms of food I suggest you bring something for breakfast and lunch unless you want the expense of eating out for all meals (the cafes and take aways 5 minutes away are good but the cost adds up). Dinners are BBQ on Saturday night and on Friday and Sunday night most cars will stop at a restaurant however you are welcome to bring food if you don't want this added expense.

Alternative Arrangements

After meeting at 5:30pm on Friday the trip is leaving from the clubhouse as soon as we have hitched up trailers. If you make alternative arrangements (eg leaving Saturday morning or leaving earlier Friday) this is ok as long as you organise them yourself, tell me about them and you have a full car of people. I suggest that if you want to make alternative arrangements you announce your intentions at the pretrip. When it comes to distributing petrol money I will discriminate against anybody making their own arrangements if we would not have otherwise needed that car.

If you make your own arrangements for transport and accomdation this is ok as long as you tell me about them. I will expect a minimum $10 contribution for the BBQ and extra petrol costs associated with towing boats to the coast.

Can non-members come?

Non-members (ie not an ANU student or SRA member) can come however in accordance with university rules non-members can only come if there is a space for every member who wants to go (there is heaps of space), get last choice of equipment and cannot use some equipment without a member. There will also be a non-members fee of $10 for any non-members to attend plus $10 per day to use equipment belonging to the university ($10 per day is a pretty reasonable hire fee for the boats and boards etc). Also non-members have NO INSURANCE.
