Hi all!
Just a reminder of the upcoming Tuross Coast Trip 8-10 April. It is shaping up to be an awesome weekend with over 40 people expressing interest so far which suggests it will be even bigger than last year when we had around 30 people!
Basically the plan is to go to the coast for the weekend, camping by the beach. We will leave Friday night around 5:30pm with most people stopping at a restaurant on the way. We will return late on Sunday once again stopping in Braidwood for an end of trip dinner on the way home. Transport is by carpooling with members who have cars and accommodation is in tents (either bring your own or share). The aim is to have an awesome weekend at the beach and for club members to get to know each other in a relaxing environment! For this reason the BBQ and Beach Party on Saturday night is just as important as enjoying the weekend sailing, windsurfing, surfing (byo board), kayaking, relaxing on the beach or whatever else you want to do on the coast. Tuross is the ideal location for all this as we camp right next to a surf beach, 5 minutes walk to the village shops and 5 minutes drive from sheltered lakes! There is no need to have any sailing, windsurfing or kayaking ability.
If this sounds like your kind of trip read the extra details below and send me an email. Include in the email your mobile phone number and details of your tent and or car if you have one (eg car age, model, towbar and how many people your tent sleeps). Then turn up to the pretrip meeting next Wednesday.
cheers
Garrick
I know that there is a lot of info below but it should save me answering 30 emailed questions :-)
Pretrip Meeting:
The pretrip meeting will be held after sailing (~1900) Wednesday 6th April at the sailing club. If the weather is ok feel free to arrive after 4pm to go sailing.
With this many people going pretrips are important to get everybody together to give vital info about the trip, confirm attendence, collect money, organise car and tent allocations, give out directions to where we are going, organise a lift to the clubhouse for Friday and tie boats to trailers so they are ready to go. If you cannot come next Wednesday turn up to sailing tommorow Thursday 31st (clubhouse open from around 4:20pm) to pay or get somebody else to attend the pretrip and pay for you.
Bring your ANUSC or ANUMC membership card as well as $60 to the pretrip.
Cost:
The cost is $60 which includes 2 nights tent site, share of petrol and a BBQ dinner on the Saturday night. Other costs are whatever you eat and drink on the weekend. The cost is higher than last year as this year the trip coincides with the school holidays which puts a premium on camping fees compared to previous years when we paid off-season rates. If anybody only stays 1 night the cost will be reduced to $45.
Given that we need to pay for campsites in advance, payment will be collected and receipted at the pretrip meeting or before it at sailing this Thursday. Refunds of $50 will be available for withdrawals before the first day of the trip and there will be a $10 penalty for failing to pay in advance. I know this sounds really anal but I don't want to spend a weekend chasing people for money or end up footing the bill for anybody who pulls out at the last moment as has happened in the past.
What to Bring:
Everybody will need to bring a sleeping bag and mat (hire from ANUMC if you don't have one). Since we are camping you also need warm clothing and preferably a waterproof jacket. Also bring money, torch, beach and sailing gear (at worst warm non-cotton clothing that can get wet and old shoes).
In terms of food I suggest you bring something for breakfast and lunch unless you want the expense of eating out for all meals. Dinners are BBQ on Saturday night and on Friday and Sunday night most cars will stop at a restaurant however you are welcome to bring food if you don't want this added expense.
Alternative Arrangements:
After meeting at 5:30pm the trip is leaving from the clubhouse as soon as we have hitched up trailers. If you make alternative arrangements (eg leaving Saturday morning) this is ok as long as you organise them yourself, tell me about them and you have a full car of people. I suggest that if you want to make alternative arrangements you announce your intentions at the pretrip. When it comes to distributing petrol money I will discriminate against anybody making their own arrangements if we would not have otherwise needed that car.
If you make your own arrangements for transport and accomdation this is ok as long as you tell me about them. I will expect a minimum $10 contribution for the BBQ and extra petrol costs associated with towing boats to the coast.
Can non-members come?:
Non-members can come however. In accordance with university rules non-members can only come if their is a space for every member who wants to go (there is heaps of space at the moment), get last choice of club equipment and cannot use equipment without a member. There will also be a non-members fee of $10 for any non-members to attend plus $10 per day to use equipment belonging to the university ($10 per day is a pretty reasonable hire fee for the boats and boards etc). Also non-members have NO INSURANCE.
