results of the special General Meeting nov 4th 2006
firstly i would just like to thank those of you who turned up, it wasn't a bad evening after all.
We discussed some of the ANUSRA suggestions such as, increasing the
members fees (which has now been done students $30 non students $50), increasing incidental leasing
fees (which is almost finalised) and charging for some of the
windsurfers stored in the clubhouse (to be investigated).
We also discussed the suggestion that the ANUSC charge for sailing on
a per-use or pay as you go basis. However, it was determined that this
would fail to raise significant revenue and would strongly discourage
members from sailing. Furthermore, it discriminates against students
as compared to say, employed faculty ANUSC members.
The general consensus is that the preferred business model is an
unlimited usage fee with differentiation between students and
non-students. It was recognised that the attractiveness of club model
is the ability to decide on the day, to go sailing to take advantage of Canberra's very variable
weather.
while this may seem a little rough to those of you who did not attend the meeting, we are faced with a situation in which we need to generate fees from the use of our boats, and given the fact that we have by far the cheapest boat use in canberra, or anywhere as far as i know, we have identified this as one area in which we could generate more income and therefore continue to provide the club you know and love.
we are still attempting to nut out whether this should be a seperate fee or a higher memebrship fee, which would be effectively equal to a normal membership fee + an unlimited use of the boats fee.
as for the other news
1. our elusive new windsurfer will be in the club for the weekend, it is a bic techno 160 and will be a great intermediate board to fill the gap between the starboard and the little bic.
2. the club will be open both days this weekend, grant will open around twelve on saturday, and either myself or someone else will open at 1pm on sunday.
