Hi Sailors,

As Adam announced before there were negotiations about us hosting the event
and at that stage it looks like it's been set that the Championship will be
here in Canberra 24-26 April 2011. Check the announcement and the Notice of
Race here
http://www.unisailing.org.au/index.php

Please contact me if you're keen to participate and what boat do you want to
sail. The regatta is open to all university attendees (does it mean students
or also staff?) and alumni.

Currently there are only two boats (racing lasers) which have no major
problems and can go into a race right away. I would assign them to Finn L.
and Andrew W. if they would express their interest. All other boats need
some work (sail number check as a minimum then new bailers) before they can
enter a legitimate race and be sort of competitive.

It would be wise to have a representation in every division. Two years ago
with a high turn up lasers and tasers were put into different divisions and
there was the third division for fast boats like 49-ers and cats. A year ago
with less participants lasers and tasers were in the same division and the
2nd division was for the same fast boats. My point is that we definitely
have one vessel which is going to be in a separate division to lasers and
tasers. It's a Mosquito cat (I don't know whether sharpie will make it to
the second division it's yardstick is not as high as cat's and 49er's). Does
anyone want to work on the cat (it need approx 1-2 hour work to fix the
rudder system) and then take it out and train to sail it for the race.
Etienne, you had experience with cats, will it be interesting for you?

Anyway, if you have an interest I can organise a few training races, make an
example of sailing instructions and train you to do the starts. The first
session can be set this Saturday from 13.00. (According to BOM the weather
is the same on Sat and Sun so it doesn't matter what day to pick weather
wise). Please contact me if you are interested. I'll need at least 5 people
to go ahead with the training.

Alex Minovich.
