Hi sailors,
Here is what's on this week.
*Twilight races*
*Tuesday, 16:50*
The shed will be opened by Alex M. for the Beginner Twilight Races with
YMCA though the most of lasers are spoken out for the intermediate course
participants. I can expect not more than one laser available for others.
Same deal: sailors who are going to race will have a priority to choose a
boat. The knowledge of the Right of Way is mandatory for all sailors
participating in the race.
*Same thing about the Laser II. I can take one man to race Laser II boat (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_2) with me, however this man should be
at the shed not later than 17.00 for the Laser II requires some time for
rigging. Please, contact me if you're keen to give it a try. *
*Social sailing*
*Wednesday, 17:00-20:00*
Nick S. is organising a traditional social sailing on Wednesday
An information about our weekend activities will be sent later this week,
but so far our intermediate course is planned for Sunday from 14:00.
*Coming events. *
I'm starting to collect the expression of interest for the Coila Lake,
Tuross Head trip (10-11th of Dec). The idea is to take off from Canberra on
Friday afternoon (or Saturday morning) camp for two nights on the
waterfront camping sites at Tuross Beach Holiday Park
http://turossbeachholidaypark.com.au/rates.php and sail both weekend days
in a steady ocean breeze at the Coila Lake which is separated from the
ocean by a sand bar (no waves, no sharks, only jelly fish). Unfortunately,
Batemans Bay Sailing Club will not have a race at the lake on that
particular weekend, thus it will be just us.
Estimated cost of the trip will be $60 (includes $30 camping
fee+petrol+Saturday BBQ).
If you're keen to go please put your name and required details in the list

*Fleet and shed maintenance and the passed working bee. *
*
*
I want to thank those who attended the working bee for the intermediates
last Sunday, we did a number of important jobs. However, since we didn't
have a great turn up we didn't manage to clean male change room, shed floor
and finish work on the racing taser. I hope we'll deal with it in the near
future, maybe we'll put another working bee followed by a Christmas party
or something like that.
I again want to advertise the *Club House Officer* position which comes
with a shed key but also with a number of important duties - maintaining
the club house, and a list of jobs which has been accumulating for more
than a year now: organising a replacement of an ever broken glass on the
street side, replacing light tubes, providing necessary kitchen and toilet
supplies, renewing trailers' registration.
A couple of words about boat maintenance.
Currently our fleet is used quite intensively which has resulted in a
damage of two boats last week. Since we do not take per hour or per usage
fees I'd expect from frequent boat users to contribute more to the
boat maintenance. *By the way, according to the club's constitution
boat maintenance is a duty of all members, and the committee has the right
to suspend from membership people not contributing to the equipment
maintenance. *Moreover, I would like to remind to all our members 3 simple
rules which help to reduce the number of breakages and the amount of time
wasted on repairs.
1. Avoid collisions. If a boat is damaged in a collision it will be off
water for at least 2-3 next weeks.
2. Lift up rudder and centerboard in a shallow water.
3. Do not take a boat out in a weather conditions when you cannot manage
the boat confidently.
I also want to advertise a position of the *Vice-Captain of Boats *which
became vacant after Finn had moved to Sydney. I'm unhappy with the current
situation when I'm the only person who knows the location of tools,
supplies and boat parts in our shed and Adam being the only other person
who has some clues about where is what at the shed. It's an abnormal
situation and we need more people familiar with the tools-parts arrangement
such that repairing jobs could be conducted without my presence.
Since any boat repair involving fiberglassing cannot be finished in one go
or at one working bee I've decided that I'll be acting in a following way.
When there is a boat job required, I'll pick a prey from the list of the
most frequent users. I'll leave necessary tools and supplies in a grey
cupboard near the sharpies, and I'll email or tell in person a task to the
Chosen. The required work has to be done without significant delays and
once the job is finished the Chosen will be free for the next couple of
months till the next round.

Alex Minovich.
