 Ahoy there ANU sailors,

Welcome to the new season! The lake is still coolish at the moment but with longer sunny days and daylight saving, spinnakers are filling, crwew are hiking and boats are planing .

Shed Open Day
The ANU Boat Shed is opening for the new season at noon on Sunday 9 October. If you've forgotten your bowline from your vang then come on down, get a refresher and recover your lake legs. Mates and non-members are all welcome (will need to sign a waiver) and we will collect membership renewals. Bacon and egg rolls will be on the BBQ for a gold coin and there'll be soft drinks available as well. The boats will be available until 3pm when the new beginner's course starts.

Beginners Course
The new beginner's course starts at 2pm on Shed Opening Day. Thanks for the great response to volunteers. As ever, the more the merrier, so if you want to help out and haven't signed up so far then please do so (http://doodle.com/4idpd2cb8mhyhgyx). We could still do with a couple of people this Sunday to help teach people how to rig boats and a few on the Wednesday evenings. But whenever you can help, that's great. The beginner's course is also a good time to learn hoe to rig a Tasar if you're keen for that and there are also opportunities to do the practical component of a powerboat license (let me know if you want to do that).

YMCA twilights
The YMCA twilights are kicking off on Tuesday 11 October. These evenings are gfrweat fun and always popular with members. We do a little bit of instruction, and then run some practical drills and casual races with the YMCA, followed by a de-brief back at the YMCA (bar is open if you'd like a refreshing ale). The club covers the cost, so it's free to members.

Intermediate course
We're planning the intermediate course but haven't set dates yet. Contact Nick Scroxton if you're intrested in that nick.scroxton at googlemail.com. This course is only open to members.

Other events
What regattas, coast trips or other events do you want us to run this year? We're finalising the calendar soon and want to try to fit in as much as we can.

YMCA student membership
Bargain basement Yachting Australia membership is available from the YMCASC for student members of ANUSC. This entitles you to compete in the YMCA Saturday series, CYC Sunday series and CYC Wednesday twilights.

Cheers,
