Hi Sailors,
Lots of people might be away this weekend, but there's still a chance
to sail if you're still in Canberra.
1. This Weekend at the Shed - Saturday 12:30pm
2. Club Championships: 28th April
3. Midweek Sailing
4. Sharpie Sailing: Easter Weekend and Bateman's Bay regatta
5. Australian University Fleet Racing Regatta - Sydney - 13-15 April
(join the ANU Sailing Team)
6. Bateman's Bay Regatta - 21-22 April
7. New Committee Member
1. This Weekend at the Shed - Saturday 12:30pm
Krystina will be opening the shed on Saturday from 12:30 to 3pm if you
want to sail. If any other committee members are heading down, they'll
email the club list, but I think a lot of us are away this weekend!
2. A date for your diaries: The club will be holding a mini-regatta on
the afternoon of Saturday the 28th of April. Open to everyone of all
standards! This will mark the end of the season and will be followed
by a shed party.
3. As the clocks have gone back, sailing in the evenings becomes
tricky. Sunset will be earlier than 6:00pm next week and will carry on
getting earlier. You must be off the water by sunset as the boats
don't have lights. This means that in order to get any sailing done
you would need to get down to the shed at 3 or so. 4 latest. As a
result we do not formally open the boatshed during the week once the
clocks change. However, if there is a group of sailors (three, four
people or more) who are able to get down early and do want to carry on
sailing, then let me know and we can sort out the loaning of a key.
One group did do this midweek so don't be afraid!
4. Sharpie Sailing: Easter Weekend and Bateman's Bay regatta
Fancy sailing the blue sharpie? We're looking for a complete team of
sharpie sailors - experience essential as Bateman's Bay is an ocean
regatta. Grant is kindly offering to help show you the ropes and rigs
when he heads out over the Easter weekend. and then offered to do the
same services down at the Bateman's Bay regatta in mid-April. Let me
know if you're interested. Sharpies are great fun to sail - an
opportunity not to be missed.
5. Australian University Sailing Association Fleet Racing Regatta,
Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, Sydney, 13-15 April
Join the ANU Sailing Team training squad group for this major national
student sailing event (NB: this is open to alumni). Contact Andrew,
our former secretary, or Alex, our race secretary, if you're
interested. "Online Entry is also available
http://uts.unisailing.org.au/index.php?option=com_seminar&Itemid=60.
The 2012 Australian University Fleet Racing Regatta will be held this
year at RPAYC in Pittwater from the 13th to the 15th of April. The
event is open to current uni students and anyone who has been to
university. Sailors are also camping at the basin to keep the social
atmosphere going and the Organisers are having a Cruise on Saturday
night as well. This was very successful in all the prior fleet racing
regattas we have had. It will be an extremely well run regatta and
great race training opportunity."
6. Bateman's Bay Regatta
This is the traditional end-of-season regatta for the Canberra, NSW
south-coast district. For more information:

7. New Committee Member
I'm pleased to announce that Malte Wilmes has been elected to the post
of Assistant Captain of Boats during this week's committee meeting.
Congratulations
It is still possible to elect non-constitution committee posts, so if
you still fancy a position on the committee then let me know. In
particular we're still looking for an Assistant Training Officer.
Additional Assistant Captain of Boats are always welcome too!
And finally, I will be away for the next week, all urgent enquirers to
Etienne Mergues over the weekend or Adam Leavesley next week.
That's all for now,
Nick Scroxton
ANUSC Commodore
