Ahoy sailors,
Just a few bits and pieces for you all this Friday afternoon.
*1) Name our boats*
Following our winter purchases we need names for our new boats! Three boats
are requiring a name, our new pacer, our new racing laser and Race 2. Our
new racing laser was called "Con Il Vente" which is Italian for With The
Wind, but the boat doesn't have the name on the back and the previous owner
wasn't that keen on the name. Traditionally we would have a name with Race
at the start since she'll be a racing boat. Race 2 needs a new name as she
will soon become a general use boat rather than a racing boat. And the new
Pacer just needs a name. As you may have noticed from our current boats
there is no real theme going on with the lasers so suggestions can be
almost anything (within reason). Please send me any suggestions you have
for our new boats. We will then hold a club-wide vote during the week
before the Shed Opening Party, and then we will christen the boats with
their new names at the party.
*2) Sharpies*
We've had some responses ahead of the new season about sailing on our
flagship Saturday boats: the Sharpies. But we could do with a few more
people. Sharpies are great fun and really quick. So if you are capable of
handling a laser in strong-winds then you might like to try the step up to
a sharpie. They're three man boats so you would be paired with an
experienced skipper, so no sharpie experience is necessary. Any enquires to
Glen.Seeley at amsa.gov.au.
*3) IPad*
ANU Sport are conducting a survey about all the facilities and services
offered by ANU Sport, thats all the clubs, the gym and fitness programs.
All responses welcome. It should take 10-15 minutes:
https://apollo.anu.edu.au/default.asp?pid=6213. In addition ANU Sport are
looking for a new mascot (apparently the polar bear with boxing gloves is
no longer favoured. They will welcome suggestions, 25 words or less and you
could win an Ipad for doing so.
*4) Beginner's Course - October Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings*
Places still available, but going fast now that we're advertising. If
you've got a friend or colleague who wants to learn to sail, then get them
in touch with Tom at tmeumann at gmail.com.
Not long to go until the new season! I'm getting excited!
