Ahoy sailors,
Apologies for the bombardment of emails this week, but as you can probably
imagine the AGM is a pretty important event. I would encourage you all to
attend and have your say in next year's committee. Plus there will be beer*
along with snacks provided by the club.
If you would like to take an active role in the club, then do consider
becoming a committee member - this is the easiest way to help the club
develop, grow, and become the club that you, the members, want it to be. We
have a wide variety of roles with varying degrees of commitment. I've
included a list of the duties of each role below. If you are interested
then please send me an email if you have any questions. No experience is
necessary. Even if you've only been a member for a few weeks, still come
along and volunteer for a position!
And remember *ANUSC AGM: WEDNESDAY 13th MARCH 2013, 5:30pm @ ANUSC
Clubhouse, Yarralumla.*
Thank-you
Nick Scroxton
ANUSC Commodore
*----Exec Positions*
*Commodore, *The Big Cheese, President of the Club, responsible for the
overall running of the club
*Captain of Boats, *Vice-President - responsible for the club when the
president is absent - responsible for maintaining the fleet
*Secretary,* In charge of memberships, taking minutes at committee meetings
and generally doing stuff that needs doing
*Treasurer,* In charge of the money, the club accounts etc etc. Making sure
we don't spend too much, or too little!
*----Committee positions*
*Vice Captain of **Boats, *This position is run as an apprentice type
position. If you are interested in learning some boat maintenance then this
can be a really fun position - main duty is to help out the Captain of
boats maintain the fleet, but you get to learn lots of cool stuff
*Assistant Secretary, *Helps the secretary in times of high workload - eg.
O-week, Bush Week, and Club Audits.
*Windsurfing officer, *in charge of the club's windsurfs, making sure they
are well maintained and working properly.
*Race Secretary,* in charge of organising teams for local and regional
races, needs to have a good head for dates!
*Social Secretary,* in charge of making sure that we party occasionally.
*Club House Officer, *in charge of the club-house and our non-boating
facilities
*Assistant Club House Officer,*
*Power Boat Officer,* in charge of the club's powerboat, its maintenance
and training of members who want to get a powerboat license.
*Training Officer,* Organises the club's Beginner's courses (2 per year)
and ideally an intermediate course if there is time/demand. You don't have
to be a sailing coach to take on this role. You can work in this role as
purely an administrative function and pass the actual training on - this
one is possibly the most important role outside of the exec, but it is also
probably the most rewarding too.
*Assistant Training officer, *Training Officer's bitch, - helps organise
things, getting volunteers down to the club etc.
*Publicity Officer,* in charge of promoting the club - mainly this involves
tending to the webpage and facebook group.
*Kayak Officer,* in charge of the club's kayaks but also, more importantly
the kayak space rentals!
*----Additional Positions*
Once all the above positions have been filled we are able to elect any
general club member to any specific club responsibility that they may
choose to take on for the following year. This also enables that person to
come to committee meetings and have a say in the way the club runs. In the
past we have elected: additional *Vice Captain of Boats*, *Sharpie
Officer*etc etc. Other potential positions include a
*Student Race Officer* or *Team Racing Officer *or an* Assistant to any of
the above positions*. We can also elect *General Members* for those who
don't want to commit to a specific task or when all other positions have
been filled.
* You'll have to bring your own.
