[Sres-postdocs] WebCT Discussion Forum

Greetings,

We heard at today's staff meeting that student feedback suggested that use
of WebCT and particularly the Discussion and communication tools should be
enhanced through out SRES. As a consequence , I will run a short session on
the use of the Discussion (and related) tools available in WebCT. 

It literally takes seconds to add the Discussion tool to existing WebCT
pages - which I will demonstrate - but I'll also add some practical hints on
using the Discussion pages, including:

* Creating Topics (threads) and organising postings
* Allowing anonymous postings
* Compiling postings
* Linking the Discussion into other resources (e.g. so it is one click away
from an organiser page)
* Notification that a new posting has arrived (on MyWebCT page)
* Seeing who is using (reading / writing to) the Discussion forum
* Introducing the Calendar tool
* Other topics at participant's request...

We will use the 9:15 - 10:00am "Staff meeting slot" in F101 next Friday
(18/8/06) and set up a data projector so you can see hands-on what is done
(data projector and room will be used by the HE Forum after 10am so we have
a definite deadline!)
