Hi Everyone,
In the spirit of energy conservation and reducing greenhouse gas
emissions stemming from transport, "Share a Ride Day" is coming to
the ANU on the 26th of July.
This day is a chance for people who normally find it difficult to
participate in carpooling, to actually organise in advance to share a
ride to work with colleagues or friends and have some fun in the
process (with the chance of winning a prize). Carpooling all the time
may be difficult, with the demands of our personal and work lives
(dropping children off at school, appointments at lunch, different
working hours) being hard to synchronise with others. However,
occasional carpooling may be some what easier.
With this in mind, ANUgreen have decided to promote the concept of
occasional carpooling through Share a Ride Day on Wednesday 26th July
- that is, sharing a vehicle now and then, when it is convenient to
do so. If only 50% of those who do currently drive to campus carpool
on the 26 July 2006 - we will reduce greenhouse emissions by more
than 7 tonnes per annum. Carpool a few more days a year, and the
reductions will be significant.
More info, including prizes, on the attached poster (which we'd love
you to pass around/put up to help promote this special day).
Cheers,
Debbie Claridge
