Dear all - details of a
Combined economic geography study group and postgraduate event
IAG-sponsored Workshop

POSTCOLONIAL GEOGRAPHIES

The workshop is a joint undertaking of the IAG Economic Geography
Study Group, the Discipline of
Geography at the University of Newcastle and the Department of Human
Geography at Macquarie
University.

The workshop will centre on new ways that Human Geography in
Australia is being approached as a
result of postcolonial insights and approaches. The workshop will
feature a keynote contribution from
Susan Roberts, University of Kentucky.

The workshop will also target research practice. Here we will use
Susan Roberts and Katharine
Rankin, University of Toronto, as centrepieces with a series of
workshops including,
Reading postcolonial geographies: meet the authors, Susan Roberts
and Katharine Rankin
Doing postcolonial geographies in the field
  Writing postcolonial geographies
  Interviewing issues

Date: Thursday April 6 and Friday April 7 2006

Time: 9:00 to 16:30

Venue: RAIA Building (Tusculum Villa), Manning St, Potts Point Sydney

Program: see attached

Participation: Participants will be assigned a role in the workshop.
Commonly, this will be a 10
minute contribution to one of the panel discussions drawing on the
participant's research
experiences. In addition, participants are invited to contribute a
short commentary to the final
session 'Postcolonialism and geography in Australia'. A collection
of these contributions will be
organised for publication in a special journal issue, perhaps
Geographical Research.

RSVP: Please email Natalie Moore (natalie.moore at newcastle.edu.au) to
confirm your attendance
by the 3rd April 2006. There is no registration fee for members of
