LINKAGE INFRASTRUCTURE, EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES - FOR FUNDING in 2008
The LIEF Funding Rules for funding commencing in
2008 are available on the ARC website at

Applicants for the Linkage Infrastructure,
Equipment and Facilities Scheme should download
and read the
<http://www.arc.gov.au/pdf/LIEF08_FundingRules.pdf>Funding
Rules and the
<http://www.arc.gov.au/pdf/LIEF08_instructions.pdf>Instructions to Applicants.
Please read the new Funding Rules carefully as
several sections have changed or been
clarified. Section 2 of the Funding Rules -
Changes from last year - will highlight the significant changes made.
ARC GAMS SYSTEM
Applicants will be required to complete the
on-line application form using the ARC Grant
Application Management System
(<https://gams.arc.gov.au/>GAMS). Instruction on
how to access a GAMS ID can be found on the
<http://www.anu.edu.au/ro/grants/ARC.php#gams>RO website.
ARC LIEF BUDGET FORM (APOLLO) - NEW
All applicants submitting an application for an
ARC LIEF scheme are required to complete an
<https://apollo.anu.edu.au/default.asp?pid=1948>ARC
LIEF Budget Form (for all ARC LIEF projects,
whether or not seeking University funding support
from the Major Equipment Committee (MEC), and
whether your application is ANU-led or externally-led).
The on-line ARC-LIEF Budget Form is used to
capture ANU administrative information about
ARC-LIEF applications. ARC-LIEF applications
will not be submitted by the ANU to the ARC
unless the Budget Form is completed before the Form Closing Date (below).
The information will assist the MEC to confirm
offers of funding for ARC-LIEF bids, and will
also be used by the Research Office to collect
collaborative data for the annual
inter-university ARC-LIEF collaboration
data-sharing. The information will also be used
to administer ARC-LIEF proposals requesting more
that $200K MEC funding, which require DVC approval on the advice of the MEC.

Please Note:
§ Once the form has closed, there is no possibility of further access.
§ Details may be changed between the time
of submission of the Budget Form, and the
submission of the final application, although it
is expected that, if possible, the ARC-LIEF
Budget Form will be in the 'ball park' of the final application.
Should it be MEC Major Equipment Grant, or should it be ARC-LIEF?
Think carefully about which grant is the most
appropriate for your needs. Grants which could
be funded through ARC-LIEF will not be eligible
for funding through MEC. Please read carefully
the Guidelines for MEC at:

Sources of Advice and Assistance
Content: It is expected that at least one
academic colleague or mentor read your
application prior to submission to
CoSRO. Possible readers and sources of advice
include senior colleagues, current and previous
ARC grant holders, and/or Heads of Schools/Departments.
Finance: Financial advice relative to your
budget should be sought from your local finance
officer. This includes advice on salary levels,
on-costs, and standard purchasing and/or travel rates.
Grant Scheme: Advice on grant schemes,
University research policies, and procedures are
available from your relevant Research Management Officer.
CoSRO SUBMISSION DEADLINE: FRIDAY 4TH MAY at 10am
Note Apollo budget form deadline is 30th April.
All applications must be received by Friday the
4th of May as each application requires review
and approval by the relevant officers and Dean or
Director prior to submission to the ARC. The
College of Science Research Management Office
(CoSRO) will forward the applications in accordance with the ARC deadline.
CoSRO cannot guarantee approval and submission of
applications not received by this date.
DRAFT APPLICATIONS
Please note that CoSRO is more than happy to
review FINAL DRAFT applications and provide
feedback prior to the above deadline. We
encourage you to email a FINAL DRAFT of your
application to your Research Management Officer
as early as possible so as to allow time for a
thorough technical and quality check to be performed.

1) One (1) complete Draft application
submitted to CoSRO 1-2 weeks before the closing date of 16th April 2007.
2) Draft application returned to applicant advising recommendations.
3) Final Application returned to CoSRO per submission procedures below.
FINAL APPLICATION SUBMISSION PROCEDURES/REQUIREMENTS
A complete Final Application comprises the following:
* All applicants submitting an application
for an ARC LIEF scheme are required to complete
