Karl,

Probably the biggest benefit is people spend more time in their local 
community. While the City of Sydney has emptied - Inner West Local 
Government Area is now busy. Great to see everyone out walking and 
cycling! Workplaces are as much about social as economic. Video and 
Telephone surveillance is not the same.

Technology wise - as my first job in 1982 was as node liason officer on 
CSIRONET perhaps not much technology has changed. By the way, I 
recommended we go with a Northstar and CPM.... Then an "Office 
Automation Techical Analyst" and even looked at "remote access for a 
university in 1997!

The WWW is amazing, the user friendliness of social media and video 
conferencing software helps and we have Linux and open source software...

Carbon emissions from Transport is down - this was growing before 
whereas other emissions were dropping.
