Ex-ANU Surplus Computer Sale

As part of providing recycling services on campus the ANUgreen program is now also assisting areas to dispose of excess computer equipment. If the equipment is damaged the items are collected and sent to specialist recyclers who strip the equipment down and recycle the components. Where the equipment is functioning but is of low spec several charity and school groups have been identified who will take this equipment and reuse it. Equipment that is functioning and has some residual value will be collected and sold (on behalf of the owner) through Hymans Auctions. At first the equipment will be available to staff and students through and on-line sale that will generally run for two weeks. Any remaining equipment will be sold through the Hymans weekly auctions.

This new service will help the ANU to reduce the amount of computer equipment that is currently thrown away and ends up in landfill. Computer waste is becoming a major issue in waste disposal worldwide and is an area that the ANU wants to address. The selling of excess computers that have some value will also help areas recover funds from old equipment and provide staff and students the opportunity to buy items.

The first online sale of items will be running from the 1st to the 12th of September. The sale is being run by Hymans - go to www.hymans.com.au/store, select the ANU logo, and log on with username 'anu' and password 'computer'. The list of items for sale can be viewed now though a purchase cannot be made until the sale starts at 9am on the 1st of September. The sale will end at 4pm on the 12th of September.

If you wish to advertise the sale in your area a poster (.doc format) is available at www.anu.edu.au/facilities/anugreen/news.

If you have any queries please contact Warren Overton in the Energy and Sustainability Office (managers of the ANUgreen program) on x58794 or email warren.overton at anu.edu.au.
