Colleagues,
It will be about now that many of you will be thinking of making
your travel arrangements for AIG-5. The purpose of this brief
message is to remind you of the field trips and how they will effect
your travel plans. They are outlined on the Web Site.
In brief, we have arranged three trips.
a. A free visit with lunch and transport provided to the Southern
Pacific Petroleum Shale Oil production facility on Saturday 31
May, 2003. At the end of this trip you will be taken back to the
airport in time to catch the flight south to Brisbane and beyond.
Although the times might vary slightly from now until then this flight
is presently designated QANTAS QF2307 departing Gladstone at
1655. Although there is no cost for the trip itself you will need to
stop-over in Gladstone on the Friday night after you come back
from the Island. The Web Site has a list of hotels in Gladstone and
you will need to make your own hotel bookings for the Friday night
there. Naturally we will offer help if you need it. As soon as you
know your plans I would appreciate an indication from you if you
intend to visit this unique plant.
b. Blair Hostetler has arranged a trip which will take in some of the
more scenic and geologically interesting parts of Eastern Australia
between Sydney and Brisbane. The planned trip is described on
the Web Site and Blair tells me that although the exact costs are
not known both this and the following field trip should cost
approximately AUS$200 per day maximum. This trip departs
Sydney at approximately 0830 on Monday 19 May and will end up
at Brisbane airport in time to catch the flight to Gladstone,
QANTAS flight QF2332 departing Brisbane 0835 and arriving
Gladstone 0950. A coach will meet you at the airport and take you
to the marina for the trip to the Island by catamaran. If you are
interested in taking this trip Blair would appreciate hearing from you
so that he can arrange accommodation etc. on the way. His E-
mail address is: Blair.Hostetler at mq.edu.au.
c. Blair has also arranged a post-conference trip from Adelaide on
Monday 2 June. The costs will be approximately the same per day
as for b. above. Again I would urge you to contact Blair if you are
interested in seeing a region of Australia very different from the
East coast.
Thank you
Barry Batts
