Hi Everyone
We are lucky to be able to host two European Peatland Ecologists, Lebrecht
Jeschke and Michael Succow. They will be visiting Australia in February
2003, and are coming to Tasmania for 10 days.
We thought that we would take advantage of their visit (with their consent)
and have organised a two-day peatland extravaganza.
On Thursday 13th Feb we have organised a meeting of bog-eyed people at the
University of Tasmania. On Friday 14th Feb we will take off into southwest
Tasmania to look at the most extensive blanket bogs in the southern
hemisphere!
So far we have contributions from Geoff Hope from ANU (guest-speaker),
Jenny Selkirk and Geoff Copson (Macquarie Island peats), Michael
Pemberton (Tassie peat soils), Mick Brown and Jayne Balmer (buttongrass
moorlands) Jennie Whinam will talk about Sphagnum (of course!), and there will
even be a contingent from the Tassie Parks and Wildlife, Fire Management
section!
There are still spaces for speakers and for the field-trip, so if you are
interested please contact either myself of Jennie Whinam
(Jennie.Whinam at dpiwe.tas.gov.au, 62336160).
All are invited to attend.
See you there
