Palaeo-climate archive studies with cosmogenic isotopes

An experienced and energetic experimental scientist is sought to conduct independent and team-based research in the field of paleo-climate change related to applications of C-14 in the study of atmospheric and oceanic processes during the Holocene and
late Quaternary. This work will primarily be based on measurement of C-14 in such archives as corals, (including modern coral records for ENSO), speleothems and tree-rings preformed at our ANTARES Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Facility. He or she will be a
member of a new multi-faceted ANSTO project called CcASH- Cosmogenic climate Archives in the Southern Hemisphere. This activity is supported through university collaborations and institutional agreements and is focussed on applications of cosmogenic
radionuclides (such a Be-10, Al-26 and C-14) to investigate climate variability, landscape evolution, glacial geochronology and ocean circulation in the Southern Hemisphere. The successful applicant will be expected to drive their own scientific research
program and participate in other aspects of the project. The position requires knowledge in the role of C-14, Be-10, stable isotope (eg d18O, d13C ) geochemistry and U-Th series dating to palaeo-climate studies, experience in relevant sample preparation
techniques and familiarity with methods in AMS measurement of cosmogenic radionuclides.
