SASQUA 2005
XVI CONFERENCE

The Southern African Society for Quaternary Research (SASQUA) will hold its
XVI Conference from 30 March3 April 2005 at the University of the Free
State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Our theme is inspired by the words on Paul Gauguin’s famous painting of 1897:
“Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?”
Quaternary research deals with these questions and we invite you to make a
contribution.

Workshops or special sessions have been suggested for:
     • Dating problems
     • African Pollen Database
     • Palaeo-site research and development strategy
Further suggestions for special sessions or workshops are invited.

Excursions to interesting palaeo-sites in the Free State and surroundings
will be arranged. Provisional destinations:
Springs, pans and fossil sites like Florisbad (home of the Florisbad skull
housed at the National Museum, Bloemfontein) and Baden Baden, rock art
localities, etc.

Nominations for the Oliver Davies Medal for young researchers usually
awarded at the conference are awaited.

A call for abstracts, details about accommodation, the program, speakers,
excursions, etc., will in due course appear on our web site and in a 2nd
circular.
