To mark the opening of its new exhibition - 'Extremes' - the National Museum of Australia is launching four new books, dealing with deserts, desert archaeology or environmental history. If you are in Canberra on 3 February you are welcome to join us. The books are: Desert Peoples: Archaeological Perspectivesedited by Peter Veth, Mike Smith and Peter Hiscock Strata: Deserts Past, Present and Futureedited by Mandy Martin, Libby Robin and Mike Smith A Change in the Weather: Climate and Culture in Australiaedited by Tim Sherratt, Tom Griffiths and Libby Robin 'Peopling' the Cleland Hills: Aboriginal History in Western Central Australia, 1850*1980by Mike Smith The books will be launched by Dr Steve Morton (Head of Environment and Natural Resources, CSIRO) at 11.00 am in the Friends Lounge, National Museum of Australia, Acton Peninsula, Canberra.
