Dear Members
It is with great sadness that I inform the Quaternary community of 
the sudden passing away of our distinguished colleague, Associate 
Professor Geoff Humphreys, at the weekend. Geoff was out on a jog 
through the bush near Oxford Falls, as he so often did, when he 
apparently suffered a heart attack.
Geoff did his undergraduate and postgraduate study at Macquarie 
University, returning to Sydney as an academic after time spent in 
Papua New Guinea, the Australian National University and the 
University of NSW. He is best known for his work on soil formation 
and particularly the role of bioturbation. Most of us saw him at 
INQUA only a week or so ago, where he enthusiastically spoke about 
his research.
Our sincerest condolences go out to his family at this time.
