Dear Members
It is with great sadness that I inform the Quaternary community of
the sudden passing away of our distinguished colleague, Associate
Professor Geoff Humphreys, at the weekend. Geoff was out on a jog
through the bush near Oxford Falls, as he so often did, when he
apparently suffered a heart attack.
Geoff did his undergraduate and postgraduate study at Macquarie
University, returning to Sydney as an academic after time spent in
Papua New Guinea, the Australian National University and the
University of NSW. He is best known for his work on soil formation
and particularly the role of bioturbation. Most of us saw him at
INQUA only a week or so ago, where he enthusiastically spoke about
his research.
Our sincerest condolences go out to his family at this time.
Henk Heijnis
President of AQUA
