*Two day short course Announcement - Geophysics for Archaeologists and
other Professionals
17 and 18 November 2007
Flinders University, Adelaide*
In recent years the Department of Archaeology at Flinders University has
established a vibrant program in archaeological geophysics with ongoing
research projects centred around historical, maritime, Indigenous and
forensic sites. Drawing on this experience and expertise geophysicist
Ian Moffat and archaeologist Lynley Wallis present a two day short
course designed to introduce participants to the variety of geophysical
techniques available for sub-surface imaging, including ground
penetrating radar, electromagnetic induction and magnetometer. We
provide introductory theoretical and hands-on training in geophysical
techniques to ensure partipants are aware of the opportunities and
limitations of these methods, thereby facilitating a better result when
applied.
The course will be run over the weekend of 17 and 18 November at
Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia. Further details and
application forms can be found online at
http://ehlt.flinders.edu.au/archaeology/fieldwork/short_courses/geophysics/index.php;
in order to ensure the best possible access to equipment there are
limited places available and these will be allocated on a first come basis.
For those seeking a deeper understanding of these techniques there is
also a limited number of places available in a five day course entitled
"Introductory Archaeological Geophysics" in the week immediately
preceding the two day course from 12-16 November 2007; anyone who is
interested in attending the extended version should contact Lynley
Wallis (Lynley.Wallis at flinders.edu.au or 08 8201 3520) for more
information.
