Dear all
Sorry, I just discovered that I needed to include details of the
available scholarships in the body of the message. Apologies for cross
postings.
PhD scholarships available
Two fully funded PhD scholarships worth $22,500 per year for three years
are available in the Natural Hazards Research Laboratory, School of Risk
and Safety Sciences, UNSW on a project entitled: "Testing the Australian
Megatsunami Hypothesis". This project is funded by a grant from the
Australian Research Council to Dr Dale Dominey-Howes.
Successful applicants will be required to enrol as soon as possible.
The project is to examine Holocene records of coastal environmental
change and possible evidence for tsunami and storm surge flooding. One
PhD project will focus on the coast of NSW, Australia and the other will
work on the west coast of New Zealand. Funds are available to support
all travel, research and field expenses as well as international
conference attendance and technical training.
Applications are sought from suitably qualified candidates with either a
first class Honours degree and/or Masters by Research in physical
geography, geomorphology, sedimentology, micropalaeontology, earth
sciences, coastal studies, environmental studies or natural hazards. In
addition to these core skill areas, applicants who have demonstrable
capabilities in GIS, remote sensing, modelling and/or
hydrodynamics/mathematics would be particularly welcome.
For further information about the project, please contact Dr Dale
Dominey-Howes, Natural Hazards Research Laboratory, School of Risk and
Safety Sciences, UNSW. Email: dale.dh @unsw.edu.au; Tel: +61 (2) 9385
4830 or 0401 647 959.
Successful applicants will be enrolled in their PhD's at UNSW but will
work in partnership with the project collaborators Professor Jon Nott
(James Cook University, Cairns) and Dr James Goff (NIWA, Christchurch,
New Zealand).
