Position Description
The position leads a team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, geochemists and analytical staff undertaking major research initiatives that measure, assess and predict changes in catchment and fluvial material flux and its effect on river channel morphology and aquatic physical habitat. The position works closely with a broader team of biogeochemists and ecologists to apply this knowledge to manage, and where necessary restore, Australia’s rivers, estuaries, reservoirs and floodplains. The appointee will be experienced in the application of hydrological and catchment sediment flux models and the application of sediment tracing techniques. The position will work with the team to continue to develop and apply innovative sediment tracing methods, and to translate scientific understanding into models which are both scientifically rigorous and accessible by stakeholder groups. The appointee will have good project management skills and a demonstrated ability to develop networks with major clients and with other research and development providers. This position has a strong mentoring role for junior scientists to continue to develop their skills in science, communication and project management.
