The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for the
continuing (tenured) position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Quaternary
Geology and Paleoclimatology.
Quaternary Geology and Paleoclimatology research and teaching is an
important component of the programmes offered by the Department of
Geological Sciences at University of Canterbury.
Applicants for this position will be expected to develop and contribute
to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise
postgraduate research students in the MSc and PhD (Geology, Hazard and
Disaster Management, and Environmental Science) programmes, and develop
their own research programmes. An excellent research and publication
track record in Quaternary Geology and Paleoclimatology, or closely
related disciplines, is a key requirement. We are looking for someone
who will apply expertise from a related sub-discipline such as
micropaleontology or geomorphology to Quaternary climate issues. An
ability to collaborate with existing staff in the department is
important. Existing Quaternary related research strengths include
glacial geology, micropaleontology, tectonic geomorphology and
biogeochemistry. Evidence of a commitment to excellent teaching and
outstanding research with potential or demonstrated ability to lead
research programmes and gain external funding will be required. A
willingness and ability to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes in geology is also essential. Applicants must have a PhD and
postdoctoral research experience in a field of Earth Sciences related to
Quaternary Geology, with a strong research track record appropriate to
the level of application.
The Department of Geological Sciences has a high national and
international profile and has excellent teaching and research facilities
including a new stable isotope facility and a surface exposure dating
