Geochemist – XRF Operator / Analytical Chemist

3 years Fixed Term

Salary range $74K to $79K (plus 15.4% super)

ANSTO is one of Australia’s foremost scientific research and development organisations, focused on delivering the benefits of nuclear science to the Australian community.

The Institute for Environmental Research (IER) is a centre of excellence in the southern hemisphere in understanding how environmental systems function and interact, and the impact that humans are having on the environment by applying nuclear and isotopic techniques. IER’s research is discovery directed and focused on addressing major environmental issues such as climate change, water resource sustainability, air pollution, human impact on Earth systems and waste in the environment.

IER is located in a natural bush environment with easy access to the City of Sydney, attractive residential suburbs, beaches and all amenities.

We are looking for a Geochemist – XRF Operator / Analytical Chemist to commission, set up and operate a new ITRAX sediment core-scanning facility, interpret and analyse results of sample testing for incorporation in technical reports and provide critical support to the low level radiochemistry group that is part of a central research unit within IER.

This position reports to the Project Leader of Nuclear Methods in Earth Systems and you will be part of a team focussed on sediment dating and analysis. To be successful in this position, you will have a degree in geochemistry, analytical chemistry or other relevant discipline.

Your experience in a chemical laboratory including your experience in XRF operation and analysis is essential. Your ability to analyse and interpret data with a strong focus on accuracy together with your excellent time management and organisational skills are a must to succeed in this position.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants will require a security and medical assessment and Australian citizens are preferred. IER offers relocation assistance to applicants from overseas and interstate.
