The successful candidate will have a significant reputation in their field, and will demonstrate expertise and leadership in the discipline. The appointee will coordinate and teach undergraduate and postgraduate geoscience and environmental science courses; contribute to teaching in general geology and environmental science, and supervise postgraduate students in his/her area of expertise.
Qualifications
Senior Lecturer: Ph.D. in geoscience or environmental science and either formal tertiary teaching qualifications and significant teaching experience or global expertise in the discipline.
Lecturer: Ph.D. in geoscience or environmental science and either formal tertiary teaching qualifications and some teaching experience, or a masters degree, with formal tertiary teaching qualifications and significant teaching experience, or significant relevant industry experience.
Required Knowledge and Experience
Strong background in one or more of the following key areas:
1. Applied Geosciences, including Natural Resource and Environmental Management.
2. Natural Hazards.
3. Soil Science, Mineralogy and Igneous or Sedimentary Petrology.
Experience in developing countries, particularly in geoscience and environmental issues pertaining to small island states is desirable.
Experience in distance teaching/learning would be advantageous.
A substantial publication record in international refereed journals is required.
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in geoscience through appropriate research publications.
Contract term: the position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range
Senior Lecturer: F$81 145-F$93 629 p.a. (inclusive of 15% gratuity).
Lecturer: F$59 813-F$78 700 p.a. (inclusive of 15% gratuity).
In addition, the University contributes 10% of base salary to an approved superannuation scheme and provides airfares and relocation costs where appropriate.
