A gentle reminder that the abstract submission deadline for the AMOS 2012
Conference is now only seven days away. Please submit your abstract at the
earliest possible convenience to avoid disappointment.
----------
We invite submissions to the following session at the Australian Meteorological
and Oceanographic Society Annual Conference 2012, to be held at the University
of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia from 31 January to 3 February 2012.
Special Session No. 14: The climate of the last 2,000 years: Bridging the gap
between the past and the future
Quantitative reconstructions of past climate allow us to extend the
observational record back in time. The time series that are generated provide
valuable insights into the characteristics of natural climate variability on
timescales ranging from annual to millennial. Spatial reconstructions enable us
to study the teleconnections between the climate of Australia and the global
climate system and, in particular, to study the stability of these
teleconnections over time.
The information provided by quantitative palaeoclimate reconstructions is
essential to detect and attribute anthropogenic influences on the climate
system, as well as to constrain and evaluate the models that are used to
project future climate variability and change. Quantitative palaeoclimate
research is therefore a critical component of climate system science, and is
directly relevant to questions of climate change adaptation and mitigation.
This session welcomes presentations related to all aspects of the climate of
the recent past, particularly those that bridge the gap between past and future
changes in the climate system. Presentations are encouraged on quantitative
palaeoclimate reconstruction, climate modelling, data-model integration and the
use of palaeoclimate reconstructions to constrain projections of future climate
change.
