Tim & AQUA Pilgrims
A note recovered yesterday from early copy of Loess Letters , October 1982,
announced ³the arrival of AQUA, Australasion Quaternary Association formed
at Macquarie University 13 May, 1982.²
So this is the 30th year of AQUA. A note worthy of noting.
I well recall the discussion. It was a situation for the first time breaking
from the otherwise joint meeting with Archaeology under a combined section
of the then ANZAAS meetings (think it was section 21, though not sure). It
was a robust discussion with Rhys Jones speaking passionately to retain the
otherwise marriage of convenience.
Since then Archaeology has exploded with the many opportunities created
between heritage preservation, mining and urban-rural development.
While the pathways remain philosophically and methodologically different,
critical points of convergence emerge frequently to remind us of that large
picture of human occupation. Maybe items for reflection at the Tekapo
meeting
May the suns shine brightly, may the gods of fortune welcome and Quaternary
waters bless all Tekapo pilgrims.
Have a great meeting,
 Jim Bowler
