Hi Paul and others,
It might be a good idea as well as social to discuss, if necessary, how
delegates might want the Oz and NZ reps to vote at the International
Council for the location of the next INQUA Congress in 2019. I am the NZ
rep (with back up from Alan Palmer) and plan to hold an email vote of NZers
before Inqua Nagoya - once we know the contendors (currently I am aware
only of Dublin/Eire putting in a bid). But at the congress contendors have
to present budgets etc to the council and so there may be new information
hence a possible get together could be advisable in that case. Hence I need
to find out when those presentations are being made! We can have a
get-together irrespective of this possible issue.
I am aware that Christine Lane, who is now leading INTIMATE (North Atlantic
group), is holding a get together - to which we Austr-INTIMATE members are
very warmly invited she has told me - on the evening of Tues 28 July. Maybe
we could attend that 'do' as a possibility.
I can also advise that I and others are holding a 'business' meeting for
INTAV (tephra group) people from 7-8 pm on Friday 31 July (in room 431)
following two sessions involving tephrochronology Friday 31 July, and
then from 8 pm on we intend heading together to a local restaurant for
evening meal (possibly getting some ideas of numbers earlier in the day
when we start our oral tephra session S05). Anyone interested in tephras is
welcome to come to our sessions and posters Fri 31 July and to join us for
the shared meal afterwards.
Kindest regards
David Lowe
