The SHAPE (Southern Hemisphere Assessment of PalaeoEnvironments) project
will be holding a training workshop at the University of New South Wales
in Sydney, Australia from 24-25 February 2015. We would like to extend an
open invitation to all members of the community to attend.

The aims of the workshop are to:

* Cover state-of-the-art tools for climate modelling and palaeoclimate
synthesis

* Demonstrate how these tools are being used to study the evolution of the
Southern Hemisphere climate over the past 60,000 years

* Demonstrate how palaeoclimate proxy data is being linked to climate
modelling

* Provide hands-on training in climate modelling

Confirmed speakers:

* Duncan Ackerley (Monash University, Australia)
* Stuart Browning (Macquarie University, Australia)
* Shaun Eaves (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand)
* Michael-Shawn Fletcher (Melbourne University, Australia)
* Laurie Menviel (University of New South Wales, Australia)
* Steven Phipps (University of New South Wales, Australia)

Confirmed topics:

* Modelling using the CSIRO Mk3L climate system model
* Modelling using the LOVECLIM earth system model of intermediate
complexity
* Glacier modelling
* Palaeoclimate data assimilation
* Using synoptic typing to bridge the gap between climate models and proxy
data
* Climate reconstruction using the Past Interpretation of Climate Tool
(PICT)
* Reconstructing past environmental change
* Cosmogenic dating

There is no registration fee, although you will need to cover your own
travel costs. Places are strictly limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
In case of over-subscription, preference will be given to postgraduate
students, early-career researchers and participants in SHAPE.

If you would like to attend or if you have any questions, then please
contact Steven Phipps <s.phipps at unsw.edu.au>.
