Dear AQUA people,
I would like to draw your attention to an exciting opportunity for a palynologist here in the Department of Archaeology and Natural History at the Australian National University.
Position: 2 year postdoctoral fellowship - Level A
Project Name: The Pace and Rhythm of Climate: 600,000 Years in a Biological Hotspot
Project Overview:
In 2015 the Towuti Drilling Project supported by the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program drilled Lake Towuti in Sulawesi collecting material that encompasses multiple glacial cycles. The primary goal of this large multidisciplinary and international research project is to increase our understanding of the timing, pattern and mechanisms of climate and rainfall in the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool. (http://www.icdp-online.org/projects/world/asia/lake-towuti/)
Within the larger program of research sit a number of specialist teams producing data for this long and unique record. This specific project, supported by ARC Discovery Project funding (DP160102587) and led by Dr. Janelle Stevenson, utilises palynology, ancient chloroplast DNA and compound specific stable isotope analyses of leaf waxes, to produce a record of terrestrial vegetation, fire and biodiversity unrivaled for the region.
The fellowship provides an exceptional opportunity for an early career palynologist, in particular the international network opportunities that arise with such a large international endeavor.
Closing Date for applications: 2nd January 2017
