Subject: IGCP725 workshop: Radiocarbon Dating: Applications, Approaches, & Pitfalls
Dear Members of the IGCP 725 Community:
We are very pleased to announce our inaugural IGCP725 workshop: Radiocarbon Dating: Applications, Approaches, & Pitfalls, to be held on Wednesday, 19 January 2022.
This workshop is free and will be fully virtual. Following the theme of IGCP 725, it will cover the basics “from cores to code”. Topics will include: field sampling strategies across environments and timescales of interest; sample handling and preparation; a behind-the-scenes look at 14C lab analyses, including cutting-edge radiocarbon tools; processing and calibration of 14C results; and age-depth modeling.
Details and the full list of proposed topics can be found in the attached PDF flyer and on our website<https://www.sfu.ca/igcp-725/upcomingevents.html>. Please register by January 7 at this link: [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdaVeJaXZ-nqC8a2YM0g4LjiJch13SeugBZqQaNsalxy5UoVQ/viewform]
The workshop will have three components:
1) Advance Recorded Presentations: Twelve, 15-20 minute pre-recorded presentations to be posted one week in advance of the workshop (by 10 January 2022) on the IGCP 725 website.
2) Day of the Workshop: two synchronous breakout sessions will be held. Each will include a 5-minute recap talk by each expert, followed by the opportunity for attendees to interact with topical experts and discuss their own data/project needs and questions.
• Breakout Session #1: held at 00:00-01:00 GMT [UTC] on 19 January.
• Breakout Session #2: held at 15:00-16:00 GMT [UTC] on 19 January.
The same three breakout sessions will be held concurrently during both timeslots: (1) Field Sampling; (2) Laboratory Preparation and Analysis; and (3) Data Processing and Age-Depth Modeling. Note that not all presenters will be present at both breakout sessions. Recordings of all presentations and breakout sessions will be made available to all pre-registered attendees.
Sincerely,
The IGCP 725 Team
