Applicants are sought for a 12-month postdoctoral research and teaching fellowship at the University of Georgia to work with an interdisciplinary team conducting innovative marine geology/geoarchaeological research on the continental shelf of the Georgia Bight. The research will apply both new and existing technologies to assess the inner continental shelf for proxy evidence of prehistoric archaeology and paleontology sites. An important aspect of this opportunity is also gaining instructional experience at an internationally recognized geology department. During the period of the fellowship, the selected applicant will teach two introductory-level historical geology courses.

The successful applicant must hold a recently earned (within the past 5 years) doctorate in geoscience or anthropology/archaeology with priority given to those applicants with a specialization in marine geology/geoarchaeology. Important skills can include, but do not necessarily require all of the following: soil/sediment analysis, marine geology & geomorphology, GIS, prehistoric archaeology of eastern North America, petrography, paleontology, SEM-EDX/XRD and/or scientific diving.

The selected applicant will be expected to be present on-campus on a daily basis and participate in all field and laboratory studies. Field studies will consist of one-to-two-day cruises aboard a Skidway Institute of Oceanography (SkIO) research vessel. At least a half-dozen cruises are anticipated during the duration of this post-doctoral appointment. Housing, Per Diem and transportation to-and-from the field will be provided for all field research activities.

Laboratory activities will be primarily on-campus in the Geoarchaeology Laboratory at UGA. https://research.franklin.uga.edu/geoarchNSF; https://anthropology.uga.edu/research/labs/geoarchaeology-laboratory

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, and contact information for 3 references.
