James Cook University Archaeology is seeking applications for a fully-funded PhD project in zooarchaeology and island archaeology in 2022/2023
Come and join our expanding team of archaeologists at James Cook University focused on understanding human pasts in the tropics!
The project will explore Indigenous marine resource use and coral reef interaction on the Great Barrier Reef over millennia. This research will primarily use zooarchaeological analysis, and there is scope to investigate diverse marine faunal types (e.g. molluscs, fish, turtle, dugong). This research will be part of ongoing partnership research with Traditional Owners and provide fieldwork opportunities.
The PhD will be supervised by Dr Ariana Lambrides on the JCU Cairns campus as part of an ARC DECRA project titled '10,000 years of Indigenous fisheries informs future Great Barrier Reef.' For more information email ariana.lambrides at jcu.edu.au<mailto:ariana.lambrides at jcu.edu.au>
Successful applicants will join a strongly collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment, with unparalleled opportunities for support and mentoring from world-leading researchers and access to outstanding facilities and infrastructure. Successful applicants will commence in 2022 or early 2023 and receive a stipend valued at $28,854 per annum for 3.5 years, funding for research costs and access to funds for conference travel and professional development. Enrolment is subject to JCU's HDR admissions and scholarship policy requirements. Domestic and International applicants are accepted.
Send expressions of interest directly to Dr Ariana Lambrides no later than 31 March 2022.
