Dear AQUA community,
I'm just writing about a few things: Memberships, an online mini-conference and INQUA.
Firstly, for those people who haven't renewed their membership this year, could you please do it using this link<https://aqua.org.au/membership/become-an-aqua-member/>?
With the upcoming INQUA conference we have arranged a few activities. These are to benefit those people who are attending, but also to spread some of the science beyond the conference attendees. These activities are detailed a little more in a survey, which is available here<https://forms.gle/8h4DM7TNwKT3t6Rp7>.
Firstly, we propose running an online conference where people can present their research. Preference will be given to those people who are attending the INQUA meeting, but those not attending are welcome to present if there is space. I'm conscious, for example, that few New Zealanders were able to make it to the Adelaide AQUA meeting and this might be a nice opportunity to hear from them. There are two possible dates for this: Weds 28th June or Thurs 6th July. Please express your preference for dates in the survey. Please respond by 5 pm AEST Thurs 22nd. We will announce the date on Friday 23rd.
Secondly, we are arranging a mentor/buddy scheme for the INQUA meeting. This will involve pairing people who are unfamiliar with conferences (especially big ones like INQUA) with more experienced conference goers. The idea of this scheme is for mentors to help "newcomers" to have the best conference experience possible. While we envisage that each of these relationships will be different, there are a few suggestions about what this might constitute in the survey. As part of this process, we will utilise the code of conduct for the mentoring scheme that ran last year.
Lastly, we are hoping to organise an informal dinner at INQUA and are asking for expressions of interest, suggestions of reasonably priced venues suitable for ~ 40 people and volunteers to organise it.
Please have a look at and complete the survey, but also feel free to contact me with any questions. For those unable to make it to INQUA, I hope that there will be some benefit in attending the online conference or in the reports available to read in future Quaternary Australasia issues. For those going to Rome...see you there soon!
With best wishes,
John.
